July is blood month and it means donating blood is a priority to saving lives. Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood. By donating one pint of blood, three lives can be saved. Registering is easy and it's simple, the actual donation of blood only takes 10-12 minutes. Contact the Red Cross and donate today. The more you donate the more you save lives!
Tools For Schools
From 10:00AM to 2:00PM
The Salvation Army and it's partners are teaming up to provide free backpacks and school supplies to students in Mecosta and Osceola Counties.
Stop at Walmart in Big Rapids on the following dates and donate new school supplies! Below is a list of items that need to be donated:
Donate These Supplies:
- Youth Backpacks
- Pencils, Pens, Pocket Folders
- Loose Leaf Paper, Kleenex
- Crayons, Markers, Glue Sticks
- Notebooks, Rulers, Erasers
Items may also be donated at the Salvation Army at 325 Linden St. Big Rapids.

Fire Truck Pull

Fire Truck Pull at the Mecosta County Fair is sponsored by the Big Rapids Township Firefighters Association. This event will benefit the Area 5 Special Olympics year-round sports program for our athletes. This will be an annual event. A trophy will be awarded to the 1st place team.
Registration and check-in will start at 12:30
10 person teams
$250 per team
($25 per person)
